Nintendo and Esports
The Esport world has grown significantly in the past 10 years. Gaming used to be looked as just a hobby but now it is professionally played all over the world. There are some universities with Esport teams and even give college students scholarships. The world of Esports has grown so much that there is even talks of trying to make it an Olympic sport. There are multimillion dollar teams all over the world and they even recruit players like other professional sports. They have coaches, make team cuts and even trade players. Games like counterstrike, Dota and League of Legends are the prominent games in the sport right now, but there are no Nintendo games. I think the number one gaming company in the world should have a game in the Esport world. Splatoon, Mario Kart, Arms etc. are good games to make Esports. Splatoon 2 is a shooter that is played on the Nintendo Switch that would be an excellent candidate to become an Esport. A person can play on LAN (Local Area Connection) or through the internet, and it has a lot of teamwork elements. It is a different kind of game than the other shooters out there, instead of having the most kills to win a match there are objectives for each match. There is also a spectator mode for viewing into matches, which is perfect for Esports. The other game Mario Kart is an old time classic that people have just recently started playing online and competitively. Arms is a fighting game that is only on Nintendo. Fighting games are games that have recently been added to the Esports world such as Street Fighter or Super Smash Bros. The only thing holding back Nintendo from being an Esport is how family friendly they are trying to be. The Nintendo Switch does not support voice chat through the system, a player has to download an app on their phone and then be friends with the players to be able to have voice capabilities. That is too much trouble for people to talk with each other and without voice chat it is hard to strategize within the game. Another problem with Nintendo is that there is no Ethernet outlet for the games to play online, which would make the games not be able to be played at its best capacity, there would be lag and skips. If Nintendo were to make the console more available for stranger interactions there could be a big market for them having Esport titles.
